The Senate will now make its alterations.
The House of Representatives passed a short-term measure that would keep the federal government funded through December 4. Current funding for most government agencies will expire at the end of September.
The bill will now be rewritten in the Senate, as the House version does not include supplemental funding requested by President Trump’s administration. Members of the House are set to begin their August recess on Thursday, while the Senate is scheduled to be in session for nearly two more weeks before its break.
Representatives in the House expressed a desire to remove the threat of a government shutdown and to leverage the pressure on the Senate ahead of the November midterm election.
